Biographical Statement
I look forward to serving the RI Section Amateur Radio community as your Technical Coordinator. Here’s a little bit about me.
First, I am a 22-year Retired Navy Veteran. I was first licensed in 1997 as KF4QPP while I was in the Navy. I was assigned as the MARS Officer for the USS Austin LPD-4 home ported in Norfolk, VA. Changed my call to W2DAN shortly after. (My name is Dave, but many people call me DaveDan.) I retired from the Navy in June of 2001 and moved here to Tiverton, RI.
Since moving to Rhode Island, I have been very active with clubs and contributed to various teams and projects in the area. I am presently:
- Co-Founder and Senior Engineer of Hamshack Hotline Inc.,
- Treasurer of the Rhode Island Amateur FM Repeater Service,
- Treasurer of the Bristol County Repeater Association, Fall River MA,
- Rhode Island co-Manager for the Yankee Clipper Contest Club (YCCC),
- Repeater Manager for the Newport County Radio Club, Portsmouth, RI.
I am a very active Contester and a K2C operator for July’s 13 Colonies.us Special Event. I look forward to participating in ARRL’s Volunteers On the Air (VOTA) for RI this July and November 2023, with QSO contacts with the Technical Coordinator worth 30 points.
The hands-on technical side of IT, Electronics, and Radio has always been important to me since I first became a certified Electronics Technician Computer Service Journeyman a long time ago! After retiring from the Navy, I first worked for Sprint Nextel as an IT Specialist and Field Service Technician. I am now employed at Cyber Communication Inc. (a Motorola Solutions Partner) as a Lead Field Service Technician.
I look forward to contributing and hope to hear you on the air soon! 73, W2DAN
