Mike Corey, KI1U – Rhode Island Public Information Coordinator (2023)

ARRL Rhode Island Section

Amateur Radio has a presence in nearly every community in Rhode Island. Today there are about 1900 licensed radio amateurs in Rhode Island, or one in every 575 Rhode Islander.

The skills gained through involvement in Amateur Radio allow our services’ licensees to give back to their communities and our state in unique ways. Ham radio operators, as they’re often called, contribute countless hours in providing ground truth reports to the National Weather Service through the SKYWARN program. They assist emergency management by providing supplemental communications when normal means are down or overloaded. Hams volunteer at schools bringing a practical, hands-on approach to learning STEM concepts. And through on the air contact made with other hams all over our state, country and the world, they help advance goodwill and friendship.

We invite our media partners to explore this site, learn more about what radio amateurs do in and for Rhode Island. Please reach out if you would like more information.

Below you will find additional media resources – press releases, audio and video segments, social media feeds, and links to additional information.
